‘Out & About’
Having been away for the past few days and only just back – I’m trying to catch up on “the happenings” over the past week. Just heard the good news that Kevin O’Keeffe (son of Anne & Tom, Upper Athea) has got engaged to Fiona Dee of Ballylongford. Wishing them all the very best for the future.
I heard the 5k and 10k run on Sunday last for the Tidy Towns was a great success with a good number, not only for the parish but from several clubs e.g. An Ríocht of Castleisland, taking part. I think congrats are in order for Mary Sheahan of Knocknagorna who came in 1st place in the 5k to the best of my knowledge and also Micheál Ambrose who was the first U16 boy home. Well done to them and to all who took part. No doubt the GAA and Tidy Towns runs will be a yearly event now.
The couch to 5k training/running sessions continue each Tuesday and Thursday night at 8pm from the hall, everyone is welcome to join in at any time.
Well all our young people are enjoying the GAA Camp, which is going on at the moment, hopefully the weather holds good for the duration of the camp. Then the Soccer Camp will be next on for all the young soccer enthusiasts and with the World Cup now in its final stages I’m sure there will be great enthusiasm.
Another engagement to extend congrats this week, Kim O’Grady (daughter of Marcella & Tom of Glenbawn and Brown Joe’s) got engaged to Tom Mulvihill (son of Margaret & John of Glin) – again congrats to the newly engaged couple.
Another congrats to Hannah Scanlon who celebrated her 93rd birthday recently and also Teresa Griffin who celebrated her 88th birthday. Two great women who had two big families, no doubt in hard times. Here’s to many more years of good health and long living to them both.
Anyone wishing to go on the annual parish pilgrimage to Knock, which takes place on July 31st, is asked to give their name into Brouder’s Shop as soon as possible. The pilgrimage coincides with the annual pilgrimage of the Meath Diocese and is always a nice prayerful day.
To all those on hols in Athea at the moment from far off place3s like ‘Oz’ wishing them all a happy holiday.
