Congratulations to Saint Kieran’s who defeated Saint Senan’s after extra time by 0-14 to 2-6 in the West Junior B Football League Final at Knockaderry Gaelic Grounds on Friday June 6th.  It was a competitive and exciting contest all through with never more than a kick of a ball between the teams. It was level at half time 0-5 to 1-2, at 60 minutes 0-9 to 2-3, and half time in extra time 0-11 to 2-5. In the final 10 minutes of extra time Saint Kieran’s scored 3 points to 1 in reply to claim the victory. Saint Kieran’s were deserving winners but failure to convert their possession into scores and kicking 21 wides to 7 by their opponents left the outcome in the balance. Captain Conor O’Mahoney accepted the Cup from Johnny Walsh of the West Board and Alan Neville Knockaderry Bar sponsors of the competition. Niall O’Shea received the man of the match award. The management team was John Doyle, Patrick Windle, and Tony Doyle. They will meet the winners of Fedamore and Ballybricken in the County League semi-final.

Congratulations to Carrig Celtic who defeated Abbeyfeale Utd by 2-1 in the Desmond Premier Division League Cup final in Clounreask, Askeaton on Sunday June 8th. Anthony Molyneaux, in the first half got the equalizer and Seanie King scored the winning goal. Sean Mc Sweeney received the man of the match award from Frank Nelligan, PRO of the Desmond League. The Chairman of the League Chris Purcell presented the cup to captain Anthony Molyneaux, and the celebrations began. The Special Olympics Ireland Games were held in Limerick from Thursday June 12th to Sunday June 15th to pick representatives to represent Ireland in next year’s Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Darragh O’Connell from Reen’s Ardagh   participated in the Torch Run in Newcastle West on the Wednesday and also in the sports events over the weekend.

The Friends of Saint Ita’s Community Hospital wish to thank the collectors and everyone who contributed so generously to their recent Church gate collection in Kilcolman. The death has taken place of Maurice (Moss) Barrett, Ballylahiff, (near Pallas Foods) Newcastle West, ex employee Wyeth, Askeaton. He lay in repose at Reidy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West on Tuesday June 10th from 6pm followed by removal to Newcastle West Church. His Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Newcastle West at 11.30 am on Wednesday June 11th followed by burial in Calvery Cemetery Newcastle West. We extend our sympathy to his brothers, sisters, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May he rest in Peace.

Congratulations to Fr Tom Mangan, Administrator of Saint Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, Limerick and the members of the South Limerick Residents Association who maintain the grounds and the surrounding area who were recently presented with the Limerick Tidy Town’s Monthly Award. Saint Joseph’s are the fifth monthly winner and an overall winner will be announced at the end of the year. Fr Tom is a native of Glensharrold, Carrigkerry and he has overseen the recent renovations at the church which is now one of the finest in the Diocese.

Paddy Fullam from Newcastle West and a native of Ardagh has commenced a series of historical articles in the Weekly Observer Newspaper. He has a wide knowledge of local history and has contributed to many publications over the years. We look forward to reading his very interesting weekly articles from times past which people enjoy so much.

The people of the parish and surrounding areas continue to be united in prayer for the successful recovery of the family members from injuries received in a burning accident in the parish on Friday 30th May. Masses have been celebrated and the injured have been remembered at all the Masses in the adjoining parishes. We also extend get well wishes to all other people who are unwell in the locality.

Kilcolman school fundraising committee will be holding a used clothes collection at the school on Friday 20th Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd June. Clothing, bedding (not pillows/duvets) curtains, shoes, belts, handbags, all accepted. The drop off times will be announced later and many thanks for your continued support.

Killeaney Soccer Club is holding a family/fun day in Knockdown on this coming Sunday 22nd June. A large number of sporting and novelty events are being lined up and all are welcome to attend.

The annual Cemetery Mass will be celebrated in Churchtown Cemetery, Newcastle West on Tuesday 24th June at 7.30pm.

A benefit night for Martina Tierney, Barna Templeglantine will be held at the Devon Inn Hotel on Friday 27th June.
