Good luck to Mary O’Hanlon, Meadowlea, Ballyhahill who is taking part in her 7th Dublin City Marathon in aid of the Irish Cancer Society on this Bank Holiday weekend – 2nd June.  Sponsorship cards are available and I am sure that all donations would be greatly appreciated.

There should be great excitement in Athea on Bank Holiday Monday when the Fairy Trail will be launched. Congratulations to all involved; between giants and fairies there will be lots to talk about.

I hope the weather will be fine for The Great Southern Trail’s Midsummer Big Walk, which is being held on Sat 21st June 2014, commencing at 10.30 am in Abbeyfeale (Old Railway Station) and walking the 36 km or 22 miles of the old railway to Rathkeale.

Register at [email protected] by June 14th. A registration fee of €10 is payable in advance to Great Southern Trail, 9 Bishop Street, Newcastle West. Return transport to Abbeyfeale courtesy of Coach House Travel.

I’ve been following Pope Francis through the Holy Land last weekend (via Ewtn) and have to admire his stamina at 77 years with only one full lung. Hopefully good things will come out of his journey and pilgrimage.

The election last weekend has fueled every conversation and TV programme since. We are living in changing times and wait to see what the future brings. Congratulations to Glin man John Sheahan who was elected. It must be a very tense time for all politicians and their families while they are waiting for results.

As I write these notes on Tuesday morning I see in the papers where celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are spending a few days in Co Limerick on their honeymoon. Maybe they will be in Athea to meet the fairies on Monday! Keep an eye out for them. After all stranger things are happening in the country these days.
