Athea Woman to be Sinn Féin candidate for Adare/Rathkeale
Ciara McMahon has been selected to run for Sinn Féin in the Adare-Rathkeale electoral area. Ciara is 26 years old and has a BA Honours Degree in Theology and Philosophy. She is a native of County Limerick and lives outside Athea. Ciara McMahon has many years experience in planning and coordinating youth activities. She is a member of her local Vintage Club, Wren Boys and an avid sports fan, especially Soccer, Hurling and Rugby.
Ciara has been successful in helping many people with a variety of problems while working in the Sinn Féin constituency office. Ciara believes that women have a significant role to play in Irish politics and local government has a vital role to play in raising Adare/Rathkeale electoral area from the recession.
Speaking at the well attended convention on Wednesday, Miss McMahon said “Sinn Féin can be a force of change for the better but it must begin at the local level.” Expanding on her reasons for running, Ciara continued “local government must be the leader in a drive to improve the quality of life and the standard of living for the people of Limerick, and in particular the Adare/Rathkeale electoral area. I believe positive change can start at local council level. I will be meeting the people of the area over the next two months and will be asking them to vote for me as it’s time for a new, fresh, vigorous voice in local politics, and especially for the voice of a committed young woman”.
