Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Michael O’Grady, formerly of Knockfinisk, Carrigkerry and Emer O’Connor, Knocknagun, Carrigkerry who were married in the Holy Trinity Church Adare, on Friday March 14^th. The wedding ceremony was concelebrated by Fr Willie O’Gorman P.P. Tournafulla/Mountcollins, and Fr Larry Madden P.P. Ardagh/Carrigkerry. The reception was held in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare. The happy couple are currently on honeymoon in Hawaii, and Las Vegas, and they will reside in Limerick City.

Carrigkerry/Old Mill Development Association held a very successful fundraiser in Knockaderry Recourse Centre on Sunday March 16^th. They presented the play Moonshine, by Jim Nolan which was performed by Knockaderry/Clouncagh Drama Group. Many thanks to all who turned up on the night and enjoyed a wonderful performance by the local group. Thanks also to the people who bought tickets in support of the event, and were unable to attend. Thanks to all the people who gave spot prizes, and supported the raffle. A special thanks to Knockadery/Clouncagh Drama Group cast and crew who gave of their time and talents. The proceeds from the night will go towards the running of the C.E.Scheme in Carrigkerry and Old Mill.

A second meeting to discuss the Ardagh Chalice Project was held in the Community Centre, Ardagh on Thursday March 13^th. The main topic discussed was the cost with early estimates coming to over € 5,200 which may rise as the work progresses. A number of fundraisers will need to be done to cover the cost of the project. All donations will be welcomed by Treasurer Mike Daly and ass-treasurer Nora Kennelly.

Johnny Mc Carthy and Darragh Treacy from Saint Kieran’s saw action with Limerick in their 0-18 to 1-6 defeat to Fermanagh in Round 5 of the National Football League Division 3 tie at the Gaelic Grounds in Newcastle West  on Sunday March 16^th.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Mountcollins by 2-10 to 1-3 in Round 1 of the West Limerick Senior Football Championship in Kevin Long Park Feenagh, on Saint Patrick’s Day. They now progress to meet Drom-Broadford in the Quarter final.

Askeaton/Saint Kieran’s defeated Daithi Brudairs by 1-14 to 0-11 in the West U-21 B Hurling Championship played at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Saturday March 15^th.  They will meet Croagh /Kilfinny in the semi-final.

Róisín Ambrose,  from the Old Mill club was a member  of the Limerick Ladies panel that was defeated by Waterford by 5-7 to 4-3 in Round 2 of the Munster U-14 B Championship at Ballybricken Gaelic Grounds  on Saturday  March 15^th.

Limerick lost by   3-15 to 0-8 to favourites Cork in the Munster U-21 Football Championship semi-final at Páirc Uí Rinn Cork on Wednesday March 19^th.  Sean Mc Sweeney from Saint Kieran’s was corner forward and Limerick senior player Darragh Treacy was introduced as a substitute during the game. Only the team management can explain why Darragh, and members from Sean Finns Rathkeale, who won the County Premier Championship in 2013 did not start the match. Kieran Larkin Banogue, whose roots are in Reen’s Ardagh, was also a member of the team.

Carrig Celtic B lost 3-0 at home to Shountrade in Round 2 of the Desmond Cup on Sunday March 16th.

Old Mill lost 2-0 at home to Kildimo in Division 1 of the Desmond League.

The ghost estate in Carrigkerry is to receive funds from the development fund in Limerick County Council to address the sewerage, surface water, footpaths, and lighting issues. The estate has also applied for funds under the Government nationwide scheme for the cleanup of ghost estates.

A total of € 5,000 has also been allocated from the Development Contributions fund for footpath repairs at Ardagh Village.

The death has taken place of Patsy Meade, Kilcolman Ardagh, at his residence on the feast of Saint Joseph, on March 19^th He was retired transport worker, and a good neighbor and friend and he will be sadly missed by his family and by all who knew him. He worked as a machine driver for a number of companies over the years.   He was a family man who was quiet and kind and happy in his work. He liked a social drink and enjoyed a game of cards, in his spare time. He lay in repose at Madigan’s Funeral Home, Shanagolden on Friday March 21^st from 6pm followed by removal to Saint Colman’s Church Kilcolman. His Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Canon O’Keeffe and Fr Sheehy at 11.30am on Saturday morning. Family members participated in the readings, prayers of the faithful, offertory gifts and tributes.  Canon O’Keeffe in his homily linked Patsy to the many qualities possessed by Saint Joseph. Family members thanked everybody for their wonderful support over the last few weeks, and paid tribute to their late father. The music and hymns were uplifting and the attendance was large and representative. Patsy was laid to rest in Kilcolman Cemetery not far from his home, on Saturday March 22^nd. We extend our sympathy to his wife Kitty, sons, Michael, Peter, Liam, daughters, Siobhan, and Marietta, sister’s brothers-in-law, twelve grandchildren, extended family neighbours and friends. May he rest in Peace.

Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society will take place on Friday 28th March. Volunteers will be selling fresh and silk Daffodils lapel pins and other Daffodil items. All the money raised in Limerick will remain in the area providing services and support for cancer suffers and their families, and all support for this very deserving cause will be greatly appreciated.

Ardagh National School parents council are holding a Cookery Demonstration evening in the Community Centre Ardagh on this coming Friday 28^th March at 7pm. Tom Flavin is the chef and all the proceeds from the night will go towards  Ardagh National School. The tickets cost €10 each and are currently on sale from committee members and from the school.

It is now ten years since the Imperial Stag Cutlery Factory in Listowel closed after opening as the Jowika Factory in 1962.The factory was renowned worldwide as the maker of quality knives for the global market. At the height of production over 130 people were employed and the workforce was drawn from north Kerry and west Limerick. A Bus operated from Carrigkerry to take the many local people who worked there over the 42 years. The reunion will take place in The New Kingdom Bar in Listowel on this Friday 28^th March. It will be preceded by a Mass of remembrance for deceased workers at Saint Mary’s Church at 7pm. All who worked there are invited to attend.

An Irish Night in aid of the Ardagh Chalice project will be held at Neary’s Bar, Ardagh on Saturday 29^th March.  A monument is to be erected on the grounds of Ardagh Church and all support will be greatly appreciated.
