Athea GAA

Club Membership:

For those who have not yet become members of Athea GAA Club they can still do so. This is a great way of supporting the Club at only a cost of €20 for the year. The GAA has the largest membership of any sports organisation in Ireland. When one becomes a member of a GAA club, they become part of the GAA family and part of a great community based organisation that continues to enhance the lives of so many people both young and old.

Sympathy

The Club would like to offer its deepest sympathies to the Ahern family, Garrygloss on the recent passing of Joan Ahern, Abbeyfeale. May she rest in peace.

County:

Limerick Senior footballers got their first win of the league campaign when they had an impressive win over Longford in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday last. Two second half goals one from Ger Collins and a penalty from Seanie Buckley helped Limerick to a six point win and the final score was Limerick 2-11 Longford 0-11. Their next match is away to Roscommon in Dr. Hyde Park on March 2. Well done also to Limerick Minor Footballers who had an easy fifteen point victory over Carlow in the Leinster league on a score line of Limerick 3-14 Carlow 0-08.

LAST MAN STANDING

Our second Last Man Standing Competition is now up and running with week two now completed. It’s fair to say week two took a very heavy toll, an amazing with 147 fallers going by the wayside mainly due to both Manchester clubs failing to beat lowly Norwich City and Fulham respectively. We are down now to 43 players and with a full midweek round of games in the Premier League this week the possibility of more fallers is a very real possibility. Prize money is €300 and is generously being sponsored by Brown Joes Bar, Athea and the club would like to thank Tommy O’Grady for the sponsorship. There is also a sellers prize of €50 for the person that sells the winning line.
