I extend sympathy this week to the Higgins families of Glasha on the death of Jack’s wife Mary (Gregg), Ballingarry. May she rest in peace.
I was out of the country for last week on a trip to Rome. Jim and I were blessed with blue skies with temperature around the mid 20’s for the full week. One shower on the last night prepared us for the return trip home. It was not my first time in Rome but there is so much to see that one trip is never enough. I will not bore you with details but my summary of the week would be as follows: Beautiful city with so much history and grandeur yet so much poverty; so many people, many tourists, always moving; so many parked scooters; so many beggars and homeless; so many dismal apartment buildings on the outskirts; crowded buses and metros; beautiful ornate churches and buildings; so many places to eat; blue skies; busy city. One thing which I have to tell is that one day Jim and I took a trip out of the city up to Castelgandolfo in the hills outside Rome. The previous Popes went there for their summer holidays as it is much cooler than in the city. It is a lovely quaint town on the side of a hill overlooking Lake Albano. It was like Heaven! So Jim and I are having lunch in the open air enjoying the surroundings when who walks up the street toward us only Bernadette Barrett Dalton who was in my class in the school in Clounleharde! It was such a lovely surprise for both of us. She and her Jim had been in Rome also and, like us, took a trip out to the hills. It confirms how small our world is getting.
