We extend our deep sympathy to Nellie O’Sullivan and family Carrigkerry on the tragic death of her husband Tom, following an accident on Friday morning last. May he rest in Peace.
The death has taken place of Joan Tobin (nee McCormack) wife of the late Martin, Dunboyne, County Meath, and formerly of Ardagh, County Limerick peacefully at her home and surrounded by her family on Monday 14th October. She lay in repose at her home on Tuesday from 12 noon. Removal to Saint Peter and Paul’s Church Dunboyne for 11am Requiem Mass on Wednesday followed by burial in Rooske Cemetery. We extend our sympathy to her children Brian, Terry, Kieran, Pauline, Patricia, Martin. Colm, Fiona, Siobhan, Anthony, and Marie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and extended family members, neighbours and friends. May she rest in Peace.

Sean Finn’s/Saint Kieran’s lost to Father Casey’s by 2-12 to 0-6 in the County Premier Minor Football Championship semi-final at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Friday 11th October.
All the local teams were defeated in the Desmond League on Sunday 13th October. Carrig Celtic lost 3-1 away to Rathkeale in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup. Old Mill lost 4-0 at home to Breska Rovers in Division 1. Carrig Celtic lost 2-0 away to Knockaderry in the first round of the Richard Hogan Cup. Creeves Celtic B lost 6-0 away to Newcastle West Rovers B in Division 3.
In the ladies Desmond League Carrig Celtic defeated Breska Rovers 3-1 at home in Division 1 with goals from Michelle Brouder, Bridget Liston, and Aoife King.

A Safe-Talk seminar on suicide awareness will be held in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday 24th October. Afternoon tea dancing returns to Carrigkerry Community Centre on Sunday 27th October from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Music by John Sullivan and Alpine Sound and the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Community Centre. The organizers would appreciate more local support as the majority of the dancers come from outside the area.
The West Limerick Singing Club will hold the 5th Annual Gary McMahon singing weekend in Abbeyfeale from Friday November 1st to Sunday November 3rd. The event will include singing sessions in the Ramble Inn and Leens Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. Workshop on composing traditional ballads is on at Saint Ita’s Hall on Saturday morning from 10.30am to 1.pm. The newly composed ballad competition will be held on Saturday afternoon in the Ramble Inn at 4pm. Aifreann an Riocht on Sunday at 12 noon in the Church. A tribute to Pat Brosnan on Sunday at 3pm, in Father Casey’s GAA Clubhouse. The tutors for the event will be Joe O’Connor, and Seamus Brogan, and all are welcome.
Dromcollogher Respite Care Centre will host a fashion fundraising event on Friday November 1st at 8pm in the Day Care Centre, Dromcollogher. Any items of unwanted new or nearly new clothing shoes and accessories would be very welcome for this fundraiser. The clothing may be dropped at the Respite Care Centre. Tickets cost €10 which includes a glass of champagne on admission, free raffle on door ticket, and finger food. A charity Céilí in aid of the Father Chris O’Donnell Mission Fund In Saint Patrick’s Parish in Argentina will be held in the Devon Inn Hotel Templeglantine, on Saturday 2nd November at 9.30pm.The music will be supplied by the Templeglantine Comhaltas Céili Band and a raffle will also be held for numerous spot prizes. Admission is €8 and all are welcome.
The Ballyloughane School reunion has been fixed for Sunday 3rd November, in the Devon Inn Hotel Templeglantine to cater for increased numbers. It was originally fixed for Carrigkerry Community Centre but the interest it has created has led to the move to the bigger venue. Tom Dillane and John O’Sullivan who are members of the organizing committee were guests on West Limerick Radio 102 on Tuesday 15th October. They told presenter Sheila O’Regan that the School opened in 1863 and the original building and teacher’s house are now private residences. A lot of work has been done to date in preparation for the event which will commence with Mass at 3pm. It will be followed by music entertainment and chat and a guest appearance from the Carrigkerry Wrenboys. A number of people from overseas are expected to attend as well as many from other parts of Ireland. The organizers would appreciate old roll books which may be in the area, newspaper cuttings, articles, and photos, for a booklet they are publishing to mark the contribution the school made to education in the area.
