It was a very busy weekend in Loughill/Ballyhahill parish with the Cycle –Run-Walk which was organised as a fundraiser by Gerald Griffin Ladies and Bally Rovers. Weather conditions were perfect for the weekend. Last Saturday all the cyclists turned up to cycle the 117k route  from Ballyhahill via Carrigkerry, Newcastle, Broadford, Ashford, Tournafulla, Rockchapel, Mountcollins, Abbeyfeale, Athea, Ballyguiltenane back to Bally again. There was a shorter 51 k route for the less adventurous. Then on Sunday it was  the turn of the walking/running enthusiasts with a choice of a 5 k or 10 k walk. The 10 k walk went down Fleanmore  to Tom Stack cross where it turned right down the “middle road” to Carrowbane More and right again up Curramore to Ballyhahill. Again there was a great buzz around the village as people aged from 8 to 80 registered to take part. It was a great occasion for people to meet up and for families to have a day out together. Mothers and fathers piggybacked their young children or pushed them in buggies. There was also an area of the Hall grounds set aside for the toddlers to use their tricycles, so everybody was included. Congratulations to all the organizers and volunteers who put great work into making both occasions enjoyable and safe for all. It is heartening to see such great teamwork.

Saturday was busy in Glin as 27 hardy swimmers did the Estuary swim from Colman’s castle in Clare back to Glin pier. The water was choppy enough and it was no easy task but all landed safely in less than one hour. The youngest swimmer was 19 year old Michele Foley, Glin, whose mother Patricia Cusack, comes from Cratloe West. Michelle is a talented box player also and was among the musicians at the Rambling House in the Seanchaí centre in Listowel last Thursday night.

The Seanchaí Ramblers will be playing, singing, dancing in the Knockdown Arms on this Saturday night September 7th from 9.30pm. This is a night for all lovers of traditional music and song.

All school are open again this week after a pleasant summer.

The Ballyhahill/Loughill ICA group has postponed the September meeting to Tuesday the 17th at 8.15 pm.
