The Limerick GAA Club Draw for September was held at the Central Bar Bruree, on Friday 6^th September. Congratulations to Marion and Ian Hughes, from the Saint Kieran’s Club who won 4^th Prize of €1,000.  The next draw will be held on Friday 4^th October at An Trasnan Bar, Ballylanders.

A Year on our Farm was launched by RTE journalist Damien O’Reilly on Monday 9^th September. The author is Ann Talbot nee Fitzgerald a native of Ardagh, and now living in Ballacolla, County Laois. Ann grew up on a mixed farm in Ardagh, and she studied Natural Science and Geography in Trinity and also worked for a time in Australia. She moved to Coole Farm, Ballacolla, when she married her husband Robin in 2002 and they have two daughters. She is a former livestock editor with the Farming Independent (1997 to 2004) and currently freelances for a variety of agricultural publications. She has also worked as a freelance agricultural journalist in the past for the Irish Farmers Journal and the Irish Field. The book is an account of the busy atmosphere and variety of work that occurs in Coole Farm which runs to 600 acres throughout the year. She also writes about unique sights and phenomena associated with rural life at certain times of the year, and the many people that call to the farm through their work or to visit. Congratulations to Saint Kieran’s  who were the Shield winners in the All Ireland 7 a-side Junior Hurling Competition in Saint Jude’s GAA Club grounds in Dublin on Saturday 7^th September. The team played 4 matches in their 5 team group winning two and losing two. This left them third in the group and into the Shield competition. They won their remaining games in the quarter final, semi final and final to win the Shield.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Adare by 3-12 to 0-10 in Round 5 of Group 1 of the County Senior Football Championship at The Bog Garden, Rathkeale on Friday 6^th September. They led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time and added good scores in the second half to run out deserving winners.  They will meet Ballysteen in the quarter-final which is a repeat of last year when Ballysteen were convincing winners. Carrig Celtic defeated Shannonside FC 4-0 at home in the Premier Division of the Desmond League, on Sunday 8^thSeptember. Séanie King, 2 Seán O’Connor, and Mark Collins scored the goals.

Old Mill defeated Askeaton 4-0 at home in Division 1 with goals from Stephen Doherty, 2 Diarmuid Crowley and Seán McAuliffe.

Creeves Celtic defeated Ballysteen 5-0 at home in Division 2 with goals from Jamie Ruttle, 2 Seamus Mangan, Paul O’Connor, and Francis O’Farrell.

Creeves Celtic B defeated Broadford Utd B 6-2 away in Division 3 with Jason Ahern scoring all 6 goals. Carrig Celtic B lost 6-1 away to Bally Rovers also in Division 3.

Memory Boards are in place in Ardagh, and Carrigkerry churches, where mortuary cards can be placed during the anniversary of loved ones on a month by month basis. To facilitate this, mortuary cards can be dropped into the sacristy of the relevant church where you wish to have it displayed.

The Ardagh/Carrigkerry Social Club resumed on Tuesday 10th September. The members meet in Ardagh Community Centre from 2pm to 4.30pm each Tuesday and new members will be most welcome. It is a great opportunity for people to come together and enjoy the fun and companionship in a safe and comfortable venue. All the fun activities will be held and the bus service will operate to bring and take home the members.

A coffee morning hosted by Sheila O’Regan in aid of Milford Hospice will be held on Thursday 19^th September, from 10am to 5pm, in the Radio Station office, in the business enterprise centre Sheehan’s Road Newcastle West. All support will be much appreciated on the day.

The AGM of West Limerick Community Radio will be held on Tuesday 24^th September at 8.00pm in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West.  All are welcome to attend.

Ardagh ICA Guild is holding their annual Coffee Morning in Ardagh Community Centre on Thursday 19^th September from 10am to 12 noon. The guild have been holding this event for many years which raises much needed funds for Milford Hospice who provide a wonderful service for families in the region. All support for this fundraiser will be much appreciated.

Knockdown Vintage Club in association with Killeaney AFC is holding its third annual vintage day on Sunday 22^ndSeptember. All the usual attractions will be on show, including a number of new attractions. The gates open at 12 noon and there will be musical entertainment in the field during the day.

The national Ploughing Championship will be held in Stradbally, County Laois from Tuesday 24^th to Friday 27^thSeptember. This event is a great attraction for people of all walks of life and is one of the last big outdoor events before the winter closes in.

As part of its ‘’Life’s Journey’ series Lough Derg offers a one day workshop ‘Living with Suicide’ on Wednesday 25^thSeptember. This day is for adults who have been affected by suicide, either through personal loss or with suicidal ideation, those ministering to the suicide- bereaved or those working in support services. Trad for Trocaire is a fundraising and music week run by Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann from Friday 27^thSeptember to Friday 4^th October. Branches throughout the country will be holding fundraising events in aid of global poverty.

A benefit dance organized by the Flag Floor Committee Carrigkerry  in aid of the Jean Anne Fund will take place in Rathkeale House Hotel on Friday 4^th October at 9pm. The music will be supplied by Donie Nolan and friends and the admission is €10. All support will be greatly appreciated and all are welcome.
