Happy Events’

Firstly we extend heartiest congratulations to Nora and Tom Hogan of Templeathea who have reached a very important milestone in their married lives. On Saturday last they celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary. A great party was held for family, relatives and friends at the Top of the Town, Athea and everyone had an enjoyable night. Here’s to the next “10” years of health and happiness to them both.

Congratulations are also sent to Lorraine Herbert, Templeathea (daughter of Mary and Jim of Coole) who celebrated her 30th birthday on Saturday night last at Brown Joe’s. A great night was enjoyed by all.

Marriage “was in the air” for two happy couples over the weekend. On Friday last Mike Dalton (son of Joan and Bill of  Glenagower) was married to Anne Marie Flynn of Templeglantine.

And on Saturday last Kelly Anne Reidy (daughter of Anne and Dick of Croagh formerly of Athea) was married to Diarmuid Falvey of Tralee.  Both couples held their receptions at the Devon Inn Hotel and families, relatives and friends partied ‘until the early hours’. Congratulations to both couples.

Well done to the Athea Intermediate team who played a brilliant game on Saturday evening last against Rathkeale in Croagh, beating the opposition by a single point. The cup made its way back to Athea amid scenes of jubilation having won the West Intermediate Football final, well done to them all.

The Athea running Group, who meet each Tues /Thurs nights at 7.45 at the hall, welcome newcomers at any stage to do the long or shorter distance run/jog. The group thank Athea and District Credit Union for sponsoring the hi vis jackets for the group. Very appropriate and well received.

Well the August Bank Holiday weekend has passed and as they say after the 15th of August the evenings are starting to get darker that bit earlier, one can notice it already. At the beginning of the school summer holidays one thinks they will last forever – how quickly they pass and I suppose with our “HEATWAVE” they have gone extra quickly! From now on it will be “uniforms” “School Books” “Bus Tickets” and all the rest that goes with returning to school. It won’t be long now again until the Christmas ads will be on TV. Another year gone – “Tempest Fugit”

Well done to Mayo on Sunday. One delighted man in the parish with the Mayo Flag flying in Dirreen!
