Village In Shock

Anna MayEverybody was in shock as the news broke on Monday morning that Anna May Sweeney, Hillside Drive, had passed away suddenly during the night.  It is just eight years since her husband Pat also died suddenly. As everyone knows, Pat was a Trojan worker with Athea Community Council especially with the Lucky Numbers Draw. Following Pat’s death Anna May offered to continue selling tickets and has done so diligently ever since. She also went above and beyond the call of duty by getting extra prizes sponsored for the last draw before Christmas.

She will be greatly missed by the Lucky numbers Committee and it is ironic that she won a lucky dip in last Saturday night’s draw. The Community Council extend their deepest sympathy to all her family. May she rest in peace.

Athea Tidy Towns

An appeal is being made to all household and businesses in the village to keep the flowers watered during the very fine spell of weather. The flowers are really blooming now and are looking wonderful!

Another large group turned up on Saturday morning to help paint the mural. Athea’s legendary giant has now appeared on the mural. We owe a lot of gratitude to James and Liz Dunne for all the work they have put in to this mural. How lucky are we to have such talents in the parish!!

Angela Keane of Cratloe has also begun art work on the windows at Wrens on the Abbeyfeale road  and we anxiously await the finished product!

We received confirmation of the dates of judging for this years ‘Limerick in Bloom’ Competition. Judging will commence on July 29th. We would be very grateful if you would make a special effort to have the village looking spectacular during this week!!
