Athea Tidy Towns

As we enter the month of July, we are very happy with our progress to date. The painting of the walls at the graveyard are currently being completed by our TUS worker James Kenrick. Big thanks to Noel O Sullivan who volunteered his time to spray paint the wall here. Many are remarking of how well the graveyard and Giants Garden look now with the new trees, lawn, painting and flowers.

Artist James Dunn is making great progress on the mural. Two turf cutters as well as the church have since been added to the mural. Irish dancers, football players, the winged feet monument, the giant carrying his mother and Donal de Barra will also feature on the mural. He was joined by many on Saturday who helped him by choosing a colour, and painting a square. Even helpers as far away as Castleisland stopped to lend a hand. Also a very nearby publican could be seen with a brush in hand!!!

We are currently seeking two sponsors for our two flowers towers which can be seen in front of the Butchers to help cover costs. If you are interested please get in touch with any of the members of the committee or contact Damien on 087 9042477.

We are delighted to see the handball alley being used since its restoration. Benches have been purchased for this area which will be added in the near future to further enhance this area.

We have enlisted the help of a local artist, Mary Teresa Hurley, to pick out colour schemes for buildings in the village. Good impact can be achieved when a very effective colour scheme, which can be witnessed at Mullanes. If you own a property in the village and plan on painting, or would like your house to be included in the colour scheme please get in touch with the committee and we would be more than happy to help!
