Clounleharde School Reunion committee met last week for the final time to review the recent successful event and to balance the accounts. The committee agreed that the work alternated between frustration and fun but was well worth it all to see so many happy faces on the night. As a result of this Gathering many old friendships were rekindled and new friendships made. Thanks to all who sponsored the event by attending our fundraising night last December and all who paid their admission into the marquee. The Gathering Ireland gave a small grant also. When all expenses were paid the very small remainder of Euros was donated to the worthy charity of Saint Vincent de Paul. Some people have been asking if there are any of the booklets for sale. This special little booklet had been printed for those past pupils who expressed interest in attending the reunion and the committee regrets that there are none available for sale. But a copy of it will be stocked in Glin Library and can be borrowed from the Local Studies corner there.

The local Ballyhahill/Loughill guild of ICA had a very pleasant outing to Killarney last Saturday to celebrate the end of the ICA year. The ladies took a stroll around Muckross where they enjoyed the lake and mountain views under a clear blue sky. After an evening meal in the Lake Hotel they finished off the night at the Three Tenors of Ireland concert in the Gleneagle Hotel. The present spell of fine weather added to the enjoyment of the whole outing. They resume their meetings in September and, as always, are open to receiving new members. Meetings are always on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8.15 pm in the Parish Hall, Ballyhahill.

Glin Library will be closed on this coming Thursday night from 6 to 8pm and also on Friday all day.  To mark the 1st Anniversary of Glin Heritage Trails, Glin Development is running a Poetry and   Art competition. It is open to Children under 12, Children over 12 and adults (over 18). The theme is “The Knight’s Walk”. All entries (either art or poetry) for the competition must be completed and submitted on or before Friday 2nd  August.  All entries must have: Name and a contact number attached.  Please submit your work to Glin Library, where it will be exhibited on the run up to the festival.

Well done to Athea Tidy Towns who have the place looking lovely. The fine weather means that there will have to be an awful lot of watering done to ensure that all the baskets stay as colourful as they are now.
