A good crowd was in attendance in Newcastle West Golf Club on Sunday 7th July for the launch of the 75th Anniversary Book. The launch was performed by Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, and a sportsman, and author in his own right. He praised the publication highly and the work of Pat Mc Loughlin Chairman, and the members of the historical group. Pat Neville Club President was the MC for the very enjoyable event.  A number of other speakers were also full of praise for the Club and its achievements over the 75 year history. Rathgoonan House and golf course is a treasure in our midst, and the clubhouse bar and restaurant a fine facility to have. The 110 page book was printed by Fitzsimons Printers and it is full of interesting articles and photographs, and it costs €10.

The Limerick G.A.A. Club Draw for July was held in Bill Chawke’s Bar, Adare on Friday 5th July. Congratulations to Eileen Kelly joined with Saint Kieran’s G.A.A. Club who won 250. The next draw will be held in The Corner House Dromcollogher, on Friday 9th August.

The tenth annual Debra Ireland Kerry Challenge took place from the 14th to 16th June, with over 70 people taking part around the Dingle Peninsula. Congratulations to locals Joe Carrig, Eamon O’Kane, Mike Histon, and Pat Toomey who participated and was the highest fundraisers over the weekend. They raised a terrific total of € 10,000 and this was the sixth year in a row that they were the highest fundraisers at the event. The funds raised will go to funding an outreach nursing service for families.

Congratulations to John Mulvihill, and Vinnie Wrenn, who were first prize winners at the Shanagolden card game held on Friday 5th July.

The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary together with Milford Hospice Friends wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the annual Church gate collection taken up in Ardagh/Carrigkerry on Saturday/Sunday 6th /7th July. A special thanks to the collectors who gave so willingly of their time to stand at the tables.

The death has taken place of John-Joe O’Donnell, Kilmoylan, Shanagolden and formerly of Carhoona, Tarbert and Cherrygrove, Croom, husband of the late Mary. His remains were removed from Madigan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday 3rd July to Shanagolden Church. He was laid to rest in Kilmoylan Cemetery on Thursday 4th July. Sympathy is extended to his nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. May he rest in Peace.

We extend our sympathy to Helen Quinn and family Kilrodane, Ardagh, on the death of Helen’s sister Mary Smith nee O’Sullivan, late of London and Gortmore, Feenagh. May she rest in Peace.

Saint Kierans defeated Athea by 1-15 to 0-2 in the West Junior B Football Championship at Culhane Park Glin on Sunday 7th July

Saint Kieran’s defeated Granagh/Ballingarry by 0-12 to 0-5 in the County Minor Football 13 a side Competition at Ballingarry Gaelic Grounds on Thursday 4th July.

Saint Kieran’s participated in the Féile Na Gael competition from Friday 5th July and they were awarded the best dressed home county team in the Parade in Limerick.  They played three matches in the competition winning two and losing one. They defeated James Stephens Ballina Mayo by 4-4 to 2-3, Coolrea/Strandhill, Sligo by 4-5 to 1-1 and lost to Bruree by 2-7 to 1-9. PANEL. Liam O’Neill visited Coolcappa during the event, and Owen Hayes was the County Limerick Feile Na Gael co-coordinator.

Carrigkerry Church pier and gate was damaged on Wednesday 10th July when a car crashed into it. A car driven by tourists went out of control after mid-day and crashed into the middle pier and knocked it over and damaged both gates as well. Thankfully the two occupants of the car were unhurt.

Grow, the community mental health movement, meets on Thursday’s at 8pm, in the Station Room in The Desmond Complex Newcastle West. The group offer support and friendship to people who may be experiencing difficulty in life. People who suffer from anxiety, depression, isolation, loneliness, shyness or finding it difficult to communicate are most welcome to come along and no introductions are necessary.

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland hold a Social Club for people with dementia and their carers in the Woodfield House Hotel Limerick each Tuesday morning from 11am to 1pm. Tea and coffee are provided and there is no charge. Please phone Mary on 061-313456 for further details.

The Kilcolman Community Creche Summer Camp will be held from Monday 22nd July to Friday 26th July. The camp will be suitable for school going children, with lots of activities such as sport arts and crafts and lots more to enjoy. It will commence at 9.15 am and will conclude at 3pm daily.
