‘Baby Boom’

Well last week was a wonderful week with an abundance of new babies, all girls, arriving in our Parish! We start by congratulating Tina and Diarmuid Collins of Templeathea on the birth of their new baby girl Ella, a little sister for Jamie and Mark. Again in Templeathea Gráinne and Conor Brouder were blessed with their first baby, a little girl they are calling Seoidín. Next were Sharon O’Donnell and Con Ambrose also of Templeathea who had a little girl they are naming Ella, a sister for their son Dylan. And last but by no means least Helen and Paul Hickey of Upper Athea also had a little girl they are calling Niamh. (Athea Coiste na nÓg and Athea United will be sad there’s no boys however, I’m sure Liz O’Sullivan, Helen’s sister, will be delighted to recruit the 4 girls for the Ladies Football! We congratulate all the very proud parents and also the grandparents.

Congratulations and very well done to Athea United Junior ‘B’ team who won the League Cup against Knockaderry in Clounreask on Friday evening last. It went to an exciting finish in the end with Athea winning on penalties which was an extremely “TENSE TIME”!

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Murphy family on the death of Mary over the weekend. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and housekeeper. She will be sadly missed by all ‘May the light of heaven be hers’

The annual Fianna Fáil collection takes place this weekend before all Masses. Your generosity as always would be appreciated.

Well during the Easter holidays and the run up to Easter despite the hard cold weather the dust was “rising off the ground” everywhere had got so dry, now once again we are back to square one and fields and lawns are so wet. Nothing seems to be growing and turf cutting it seems is at a standstill or very minimal.  Farmers are lucky to be receiving fodder from England to feed their cattle, some in dire straits. However we must remember those in China who haven’t a home left after their earthquake with entire families wiped out, those in Boston who are without legs and arms following the Marathon atrocity and the many who died in Texas after the fertiliser explosion. It makes our complaints seem so “trivial”
