Athea Community Council Ltd.

At a recent meeting it was proposed that all organisations in the parish would be invited to a meeting to discuss the possibility of running a weekend festival to mark the year of “The Gathering”. The meeting will take place at the Top of the Town on Monday, February 18th at 8pm. As many as possible from each organisation are invited to come along as well as business people, publicans and anyone who has any ideas to offer.

In a discussion about our Lucky Numbers draw, it was stated that because of the downturn in the economy, with very few people going out on Saturday nights now, our sales have dropped significantly. If it wasn’t for our dedicated sellers in the outlying areas of the parish and in the village including the shops and pubs we would not be able to survive. We have also lost five sellers in the past year, two of whom were called to their eternal reward, and we need to get more willing hands on board. If you think you can help by selling tickets to family, neighbours or friends on a weekly basis just give Lillian a call at 068-42533.

We also have gift vouchers for €50 and €100 or anyone can join the draw for 6 or 12 months.  Your support would be very much appreciated as we need funds to continue running the FAS Scheme and for other projects including renovation of the Library when we get planning permission in the very near future.

All the organisations in the parish depend on voluntary workers so if anybody out there has a bit of spare time on their hands please think about joining a club or organisation.
