The death has taken place of Veronica Dore, (nee Colbert) Ballysten House, Ballysten, Shanagolden wife of the late Paddy in her 91^st year. Her remains reposed in her daughter Fiona’s, residence Clonmore, Dromcollogher, on Wednesday 30^th January until 4pm. Reposing in Ferris Funeral Home, Shanagolden from 6pm with removal at 8pm to Saint Colman’s Church, Kilcolman. Fr John Duggan P.P. Feohanagh/Castlemahon celebrated her Funeral Mass, and family members assisted throughout the ceremony. Her son Brendan on behalf of the family paid a lovely tribute to his mother before Mass commenced. He described her as a private person who worked very hard in the home and on the family farm up to late in life. She was always willing and available and would do anything for her children. She had a great devotion to the Church with daily prayer and never left home without her holy water and rosary beads. She loved sending cards to family relations and friends to mark all occasions, and doing crosswords and word searches. She liked listening to all types of music and especially listening to her grandchildren entertaining her. She liked watching Television and marked the programmes she wanted to see in the RTE Guide. She loved her children and grandchildren to visit her. Gifts associated with her life card holy items, and bread and wine were taken up to the altar by family members who also assisted with the readings, prayers of the faithful and a lovely reflection in tribute of their mother. Veronica’s grandchildren Grainne and Meabh along with Maura, performed lovely hymns and music that she would have been delighted with. Her burial took place in the local Kilcolman Cemetery on Thursday 31^stJanuary. We extend our sympathy to her daughters Mary, and Fiona, son Brendan, sons-in-law, Noel, Gerry, daughter-in-law Ann, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, brother, sisters, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May she rest in Peace.

Club held their annual general meeting in the Community Centre Ardagh, on Friday 18^th January.  A large crowd was in attendance to review 2012 which was one of the most successful years, on and off the field in their 40 years history. The outgoing officers presented their reports which were very well received, and all who were involved in the various activities were thanked for their input. Seamus O’Donnell the former Saint Kieran’s and Limerick footballer has been appointed as trainer to the Saint Senan’s senior football team for the coming season.

Get well wishes are extended to a number of former players who have been hospitalized in recent times and are recovering from surgery. The fighting spirit they showed on the playing fields will be of great help to them on the road back to good health.

Bon voyage is wished to Jimmy Muckell a member of last year’s junior hurling team who won West and County honours who recently departed for Australia.

Kildorrery who defeated Saint Kieran’s in the Munster Junior Hurling final lost to Thomastown from Kilkenny by 3-15 to 1-14 in the All Ireland semi final played in Cashel on Sunday 27^th January. One of their players Peter O’Brien (the month of December award winner) was the overall winner of the Cork County Sound Radio Sport Star Awards 2012 presented on Friday 25^th January.

Brendan McCarthy Darragh Treacy and Kevin Meade from Saint Kieran’s saw action with Limerick U 21 footballers in two recent challenge matches in preparation for the Munster semi final against the winners of Cork /Kerry on 27^th March. Limerick defeated Limerick Institute of Technology LIT Trench Cup team by 2-10 to 0-9 and they drew with Laois 1-13 to 2-10.

Saint Kieran’s Bord Na Nóg will hold their A.G.M. in Ardagh Hall on this Wednesday 6^th February at 9.pm. New members who would like to get involved and contribute to the club are most welcome to attend.

The Carrigkerry and Glensharrold Wrenboy Groups have held very successful Wren Nights in recent weeks in the Flag Floor Glensharrold. The night long events are a huge attraction for traditional dancers, singers, and music lovers. The cream of talent is invited to perform during the night of music song dance and storytelling. The many guests who attend over the years retain happy memories from these visits to the home of the Wrenboys.  The tradition lives on and all are looking forward to next year’s Wren.

We regret the passing of Eamon de Buitléar the wildlife film-maker, musician author and former Senator who died at his home in Wicklow aged 83 years. He was a blast from our past as he was always on Radio and Television when we were growing up.  His series Amuigh Faoin Spéir was very educational and taught us a lot about Ireland’s wildlife. He was a founding member of Sean O’Riada’s Ceoltóiri Chualann, group who had a regular show on Radio Eireann.

The death of Kevin Heffernan the former Dublin footballer and manager at the age of 83 years was much regretted also.  He was a top class footballer who was named on the team of the Century in 1984 and also on the team of the Millennium in 2000. He won major honours as a player with his club Saint Vincent’s, Dublin and Leinster. He introduced a new style of play which changed football in 1974 when he managed Dublin to All Ireland glory. May they rest in Peace.

The Irish step dancing and Seán nós dancing classes continue for beginners and advance dancers in the Community Centre Ardagh every Thursday night. This wonderful form of dance for teens and kids starts at 7pm, and for adults at 8pm. There are adult and set dancing classes for anyone who wants to start or to return to the dance floor at 9pm. Come along for the culture crack and fun and it is a great way to burn off the calories as well. No partners are required for the night and all are welcome.

A fundraising table quiz in aid of Kilcolman National School will take place in Saint Colman’s Community Creche, on Friday 8^th February at 8pm The entry fee is € 20 per table of four people. A raffle will also be held on the night with lots of spot prizes. All are welcome and all support will be much appreciated.

A trad session will be held at Foley’s Bar Reen’s Ardagh, on Friday 8^th February at 9pm.  All musicians are welcome on the night.

The Ardagh/Carrigkerry Tuesday Social Club will resume their activities after the Christmas break on Tuesday 12^th February.  New members are most welcome to attend as well as the regular members. The club has been a great success since it commenced in Ardagh Hall. Thanks are due to John Joe Kennelly and others for their foresight in setting up the club. It provides a great outlet for the senior members of the parish to meet up and to enjoy themselves for a few hours on a weekly basis. The entertainment on offer is most enjoyable with something on offer for all tastes.

The 12^th annual Lollipop Day will take place throughout the country on Friday/Saturday 22^nd/23^rdFebruary. The Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) is seeking more volunteers to help with the collection which raises vital funds for oesophageal cancer. Lollipop Day involves thousands of people selling lollipops (€2) nationwide. People interested in becoming a volunteer can contact www.lollipopday.ie

A meeting to discuss the proposed Carrigkerry Playground was held in the Community Centre, on Thursday 31^st January. A good crowd was in attendance, and a number of items were discussed including progress with the site lease, grant application and fundraising events. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 14^th February at 8.30pm.
