LAST MAN STANDING
We completed week four of our last man standing competition on Sunday evening and again we had a few fallers with a good few being on Liverpool to beat Stoke. This leaves us with approximately 60 entrants still in with a chance of winning the prize money but with this being a free weekend due to the International Games we have another week to wait and see who will be the last person standing. Most people are on Liverpool to win at home to Reading but that far from certain. After this we have over 25 on Man Utd at home to Stoke so it should be an interesting week five. Week four updates will be emailed out as per usual and well as being on our facebook page.

Matches:
U10’s:
Last Sunday we travelled to Foynes to play in the St. Senan’s tournament and we had two great games. There was a great turn out of players and parents and we were lucky the day stayed dry. The first match was against Gerald Griffins and it was end to end stuff. We were probably on top in the first half but could not score while Griffins scored 1–2. In the second half with less possession, we got 2 goals but Griffins finished strong to win 1–6 to 2–0. In our second match we played St Senan’s and it was an absolute cracker with our brave team playing some fantastic football. Jack Hunt was top class in goals with a huge kick out. Gavin Ambrose was a rock at full back as was Evan Wallace beside him. Danny Brady our captain was an excellent centre back. At midfield the high fielding duo of Alex McEldowney and Michael Tierney worked tirelessly as did Andrew O’ Riordan at centre forward. Luke Gleeson was a great target man and Eoin O’Shea who got 3 goals was outstanding. The goal of the game was scored in the final minutes by Aidan Curry which was a replica of Michael Murphy’s goal in the all Ireland football final and had the large crowd in raptures. Such was the speed and scoring ability of both teams when the ref blew the final whistle no one knew who had won. When the dust settled and the scores were totted up we had lost out by a single point 4–4 to 4–5, but the game had been so good that everyone was just delighted and proud of how the whole team played. The other players who all played really well were Brandon Finucane, Pauric Enright, Amy Ryan, Nicola Scanlon, Sarah O’Connor, Colin Broderick, T.J. Hunt, Eoin Sheahan, Thomas McEnery, Sarah Scanlon, Laura Dalton and Daire O’Shea. The team were presented with medals afterwards and with treats, thanks to St Senan’s for inviting us, we had a great day.
Training is now finished for the under 10s on Friday nights but we may have an internal parish league with 4 teams picked from our panel of 26, this may go ahead on Sunday Oct 21st, more details later
Funday U6 & U8:
On Saturday last we availed of the fine weather and held a Funday in the afternoon for the U6’s and U8’s and were delighted to see the numbers who attended. On what was a warm and sunny afternoon and with the pitch in good condition the U8’s divided into two teams captained by Daire O’Shea and Callum Buckley and competed for the Jackie and Nora Mullane Cup. The game which was played at a high tempo with regular scores in each half was won by Callum Buckley’s team in the dying minutes with a great goal scored by Gearóid O’Sullivan. Following the game a novelty event of Penalties and Points was won by Daire O’Shea’s team.
In the U6’s match both teams got their first taste of competition for the Acorn Life Shield. In a closely contested match the game ended in a draw. Tomás Ahern is the lucky boy entrusted with the shield for the next year.
Following the match a novelty event of Penalty kicks with James Hunt’s team at U6’s taking the honours.
Afterwards the Cup and Shield were presented to Callum and Tomas. Daire’s team and James’ team were presented with trophies and all the players were presented with medals in what was a most enjoyable afternoon.
A sincere thanks to all those who helped out in the preparations on the pitch and to those who made sandwiches, cakes and helped out with the refreshments.
