Once again a few congratulations are in order this week for various reasons. Firstly we congratulate the Athea/Mountcollins combination ‘Feale Rangers’ who, on Saturday evening last, won the County Minor A final in Foynes against Kildimo/Pallaskenry. Denis Greaney (Captain) accepted the cup amid scenes of jubilation. Well done to the players and their trainers and mentors Noel Barry, Denis Collins and John J. O’Connell.

It was birthday time for a few lucky boys this past weekend. Jason Quille, The Square, Athea enjoyed a great 21st at the Top of the Town in Athea along with his family and friends etc. Kevin O’Mahony of Coole had a great 18th birthday at O’Sullivan’s in Abbeyfeale, again everyone had an enjoyable time.

Eddie Sheehan of Toureendonnell celebrated his 60th birthday over the weekend again with family and relations. Congratulations and good wishes to all of them.

You are reminded that the annual West Limerick Fashion Show, which raises much needed funds to send invalids to Lourdes, will be held on Thursday, October 18th at the Devon Inn. Cheese and Wine reception at 7.30 and the show proper starts at 8pm and as always there will be great spot prizes. Tickets at the door cost just €10.

Don’t forget on Sunday next October 7th a grand Table Top sale will be held at Knockanure Community Centre. A great way of getting rid of clutter or unwanted gifts with just 12 weeks to go for Christmas. It’s also an opportunity to pick up a few bits and pieces at knock-down prices. A table is just €10 and you can book with Mary on 068-49799 or 087-7528626.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Joe O’Connor of Newcastle West and formerly of Keale, Athea who went to his eternal reward last week having been ill for some time. Sympathy to his wife Kathleen, sons, daughters, relations and friends. ‘May he rest in peace’.

The Board of Management of Athea N.S. thank sincerely all who gave so generously to their annual Church gate collection last weekend. Your help was greatly appreciated.

October is with us, can you believe it! Let’s not dwell too much on the past Summer but look forward in anticipation to brighter days ahead. Remember each day is only 24 hours long and tomorrow always brings something new.
