The  Tomathon 2012

Dublin/Limerick

250km walk to save lives..

Local Businessman Tom Moran and friends will walk 250km from West Limerick to Dublin on behalf of Pieta House; a charity dedicated to suicide and self harm prevention.

Pieta House estimates that for every €1000 raised, they can provide the help and treatment needed to save a life. The “Tomathon”, is committed to saving as many lives, by raising as much money, as it possibly can. It also aims to raise awareness for suicide and to let people in distress know where to go for help.

The Tomathon” sets off from Athea Community Centre on the 11th of September 2012 and will finish at the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin on the 21st of September 2012.

Volunteers to walk or partake in fundraising activities on behalf of this worthy event should contact Gillian Liston at 01 4593650 (ext.1011)

Cash donations will be gratefully received at our various collection points throughout the area and online donations can be made to www.mycharity.ie (search for The Tomathon)

Athea Tidy Towns

Our busy summer continues. We expect to be judged for the Limerick in Bloom competition this week and we look forward to hearing our results in the fall. The yellow wall at the Giants Garden is currently being power hosed and a new colour has been picked which will improve this area.  This work is being carried out by Tús workers from West Limerick Resources who provide a very valuable service to the group, having also power hosed the bridge and cleaned up the Goold Monument. We hope to secure a permanent Tús Worker for the village in the near future. Plans are also in place to have the church and hall painted which will have a big impact to our village.Lines are now on sale in all Shops, and Pubs in the village at just €3 each with prize money of €500 up for grabs, if you would like to help sell these lines, or indeed buy a line or two, contact any member of the group. Thanks to all shops and pubs for selling these lines for us and to those of you who have already returned a full card!
