‘Congratulations’
Sincere congratulations to all those in the parish who received their Leaving Cert results on Wednesday last and did extremely well this year, great credit is due to them and hopefully they all got their preferred College courses.
There was ‘love in the air’ this past weekend when Lorraine O’Brien, daughter of Joan and Tom, Templeathea got married to Paddy Horgan, son of Doris and John of Rathronan in Glin Parish Church by Fr Michael Cussen P.P. A great day was enjoyed by all at the Brehon Hotel in Killarney.
On the same day here in Athea Church Margaret Aherne, Daughter of Ettie and Ned of Dirreen was married to Darragh Sweeney, son of Anna-Mai and the late Pat of Hillside Drive. It was off to the Devon Inn afterwards where again everyone had a brilliant time. Congratulations to both couples and all the very best to them both for the future.
Congratulations to ‘Feale Rangers’ the Athea/Mountcollins Minor combination who on Sunday evening last met Daithi Brouders in Foynes in the West Minor A Final and had a great victory with Denis Greaney, Captain, bringing the Cup home to Athea . Great celebrations all around. Here’s to the Co-Final in the near future.
Congratulations to those who have revived the ‘Athea Vintage Rally’ – with this in mind there is a grand Irish night at Batt’s Bar on this Saturday night with local musicians, singers etc and of course many more are welcome to join in.
Congratulations to Betsy and Maurice Stack who had a great “Barn Dance and Barbecue” over the weekend in Bunghara in Listowel with all the donations from family and friends on the night going to Down’s Syndrome. Rumour has it that it was an “important birthday” for Maurice – but it’s for you to find out!
Sympathy is extended to Miriam Ahern of Parkana on the death of her father Sean Nelligan of Kilbaha over the weekend, former Principal of Kelly’s Boys School.
Sympathy also to Peggy Casey on the death of her nephew unexpectedly in Scotland and to Sheila, Pat and Frank Kelly and their families on the tragic loss of their nephew in Quilty, Co. Clare . ‘May the light of Heaven be theirs’.
I’m getting my own back on my daughter Michelle who unknown to me put my ‘birthday photo’ in last week’s Newsletter (when you’re pushing on you like to keep these birthdays quiet !)- her 6 year old, out of the blue, said to me the other day “Nana are you my Mom’s Sister” – he made my day .
