SOCCER CAMP UNDERWAY

The 2012 Soccer Camp got underway last Monday morning at The Vales with the participants learning the skills of the games under the guidance of head coach Conor Nestor and his coaching staff. Weather wise Monday wasn’t the best hopefully but the remainder of the week will improve so all are looking forward to that.

Matches:

U10’s

Our U10’s took part in two Blitzes recently one in Mick Neville park where we played Monagea, Rathkeale and Glin. The second Blitz was in Ballyhahill where we played Glin once again and Gerald Griffins. In both blitzes all the boys an girls did extremely well, matching every team they met with great skill and determination. The U10’s are really improving as the year moves on and the future looks bright for Athea. We would like to thank all the parents for travelling and supporting the team. We would also like to thank Gerald Griffins for inviting us to take part in their Blitz.

U16’s

Athea 5-4 Shamrock Gaels 1-4

Athea U-16s’ took on Shamrock Gaels for the second time this year in the next round of the playoffs in Páirc na nGael last Tuesday evening. In the previous meeting between the sides we lost out to this strong team. But this time round following a fantastic team performance where everyone gave a 100% we turned the tables on them and we were comfortable winners on a scoreline of Athea 5-4 Shamrock Gaels 1-4.

We had now qualified for the County Shield Semi-final where we travelled the long journey to Ballylanders to take on the locals on Monday evening last and despite putting up a brave performance against a very strong Ballylanders team, we lost out in the end to the disappointment of all. Well done to all the team and their coaches for getting this far. Thanks to all the parents for your support.
