Vintage followers were lucky with the weather in Knockdown on last Sunday. Apart from one heavy shower the day was pleasant and enabled the huge crowd to enjoy all the activities that were organised for the day. From early morning til late evening it was busy with people setting up their stalls and arranging catering etc. The BBQ stand was busy all day long thanks to the three chefs Joe, Eddie and Mike. Among the novelty events organised by the Killeaney AFC was the Bonny Baby competition which was won by the beautiful 4 month old Cáit Culhane from Killeaney. The Glamorous Granny title went to the glamorous Marcella O’Grady, Glenbawn. Martin Kelliher won the Sheaf Tossing competition. There were people attending from all parts of Ireland as far as Wicklow, Meath, Cork, and Galway. There were lots of novelty events for the younger people too. It was a real family occasion. The day was a great success thanks to the Knockdown Vintage and Killeaney AFC committees who worked hard all week to ensure that everything went off well. Needless to add that behind every good man is a good woman and we know that all their women worked as hard in the background! Well done to all.
I am delighted to be a grandmother again this week; our daughter Lisa, in Perth, gave birth to a little girl Ayda, a brother for Noah. All are well, thank God.
It is nice to see activity around Dan Faley’s house in Turraree again. Best wishes to the new occupants; may they be as content as Dan and Ciss were for many years.
Glin Library has an exhibition of knitting on display for the rest of July. All welcome to call.
