People from the locality travelled to the games to cheer on the side, who never reached their playing potential. Carrigkerry / Old Mill Community Employment Scheme, with a supervisor and 16 participants, concluded their one year term on Friday 22nd June. It was another busy year for all involved in maintaining villages, school grounds, community centre, park areas and playing fields. A new one year extension has been granted and this commenced on Monday 25th June. The sponsor funding for each participant was halved from €20 per week/ per participant to €10 per week/ per participant from January 1st 2012. This has put a lot of financial pressure on Sponsors and has denied training opportunities for participants. It looks like the end of C.E. Schemes in their present format if the Fine Gael Party has their way over the Labour Party who is in favour of them. A review of the Schemes is being held at present, so developments are awaited.
