West Final:

We lost to St Marys/Sean Finns [Rathkeale] by 3pts in the West  Intermediate Final where the scores finished 1-09 to 1-12.
The game was played in Croagh last Sunday evening. Rathkeale were the better team in the opening half but were aided by a strong breeze and led at the break by 1-07 to 4pts. Three substitutions at the break saw Patrick Ahern come on for Brian McKenna, Ger Collins for Michael Reidy and John Cotter for Tom Greaney. Rathkeale opened the half better and notched over a point from play. Playing first time ball into our full forward started paying dividends. We converted a penalty and followed on with three unanswered points to bring just a point between us. Two more changes saw Brian Ahern and Conor Mullane coming in for Kevin O’ Keeffe and Tom Collins with 20mins to go. We were dealt a blow when Kevin Mahony who was playing well at corner forward suffered an ankle injury and had to come off leaving us with 14 players. We still fought hard to close the gap and we created the chances but just couldn’t
capitalise. With  5 mins to go, a second bookable offense saw us being reduced to 13 players. Rathkeale pulled back another two points and held on to win by three points in the end. It was disappointing to lose our third final in a row but at least we kept fighting till the final whistle. All our focus now will be on the County Championship where our next game will be against Bruree. A speedy recovery to Kevin Mahony and we would like to wish Martin Chawke well in his working
abroad.

Team in Full: Timmy Enright, Mathew Tierney, Martin Chawke, Denis Greaney, Paul Collins, Mark O’ Connor, Tom Collins, Michael Reidy, Sean McGrath, Joe Vaughan, Kevin O’ Keeffe, Kevin Mahony, Brian McKenna, Tommy Greaney. Subs: Patrick Ahern, Conor Mullane, Brian Ahern, Ger Collins, John Cotter, Michael Ahern, Sean Ahern, Ryan Carroll.
