Athea Ladies Football

U12’s:
Athea——–4-3     Gerald Griffins—– 2-0
Athea U12 girls played their first game of the league when they took on Gerald Griffins in Páirc na nGael on Friday evening last. In an evenly contested first half it was Athea who opened the scoring when Meadhbh Murphy scored a great goal. Our midfield pair of Aoife Curtin and Ciana Murphy were very busy covering all areas of the field.
Rachel Greaney and Grace Ryan were on top in the half back line before Aibhilín Murphy got Athea’s second goal. Just before half time, Gerald Griffins pulled a goal back to leave us three points ahead at the break. In the second half, our forwards continued to impress with Ciara Hunt and Nicole Fitzgerald playing very well. Meadhbh Murphy got her second goal of the game and then scored a great point to put us
seven points up. Ciara O’ Shea, Niamh McDonagh and Sinead Hunt dealt with everything that came their way in the backs and a great performance by Michelle Curtin in goals kept the opposition at bay. Aibhilín Murphy got her second goal of the game as the subs that had come on Noelle Curtin, Claire Carmody, Maura Broderick and Jade McMahon were all playing their part. Gerald Griffins then got a goal but two great points from Emer Lenihan insured victory for Athea on a
scoreline of 4-3 to 2-0. Team: Michelle Curtin, Sinead Hunt, Ciara O’Shea, Niamh McDonagh, Grace Ryan, Rachel Greaney, Aoife Curtin, Ciana Murphy, Ciara Hunt, Aibhilín Murphy, Nicole Fitzgerald, Emer Lenihan, Meadhbh Murphy, Noelle Curtin, Claire Carmody, Maura Broderick & Jade
McMahon.
