 The Coffee Morning held in O’Riordan’s Pharmacy on Daffodil Day raised €570.  A big thank you to all of the great bakers from Athea who, every year without fail, always come up trumps. A special thanks to  Nora White who came in on her day off to keep the kettle boiled and to all who contributed.

A special thanks to those who bought or sold lines and all who donated spot prizes etc. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Ronald McDonald House is a charity attached to Our Lady’s Hospital for sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin and depends on fund-raising to continue.

CARRIGKERRY COMMUNITY INFORMATION POINT:

West Limerick Resources has recently launched the first in a series of new Community Information Points in Carraigkerry Community Centre.  The free service is available four days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) from 9am to 2pm and will offer internet access and support to find information on a wide range of subjects. Information literature on benefits and vital services are also available. The Information Point is supported by an Information Assistant. No appointment necessary. Supported by Carraigkerry/Old Mill Development Association and the local FÁS Scheme.

 

RELOCATION OF WEST LIMERICK RESOURCES ABBEYFEALE OFFICE:

Please note that West Limerick Resources is moving premises from The Square to the Adult Education Centre, Mountmahon (Old VEC Technical School) effective from Friday March 30, 2012. Please note that all existing supports and services will not be affected and we hope that the move will be carried out with the least disruption to individuals and groups we are supporting. All room bookings for group activities will transfer as normal. It is envisaged that the move will give people in the community greater access to locally based coordinated supports and services. TRAINING ON DEVELOPING A CRAFT BUSINESS

This five week course is open to existing craft businesses in the West Limerick Area and will cover a wide variety of topics including How to identify potential customers, Idea generation for new products, Product pricing, Routes to market, Sales Techniques and Marketing & New Media.  A tailored mentoring session for each business is also included.  This evening training will commence at 7pm on April 11th in The Courtenay Lodge Hotel, Newcastle West and is free of charge. BIRD BOXES AVAILABLE TO TIDY TOWNS GROUPS:

West Limerick Resources has Bird Boxes available to Tidy Towns and other community Groups based in the West Limerick area.  There are up to five bird boxes available to each group which must be collected from West Limerick Resources main office, St., Mary’s Rd, Newcastle West on or before April 13th.  Limited availability.  Boxes will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. These bird boxes have been constructed through a joint initiative with the carpentry unit of the Arbour Hill prison as part of a training programme which aims to make a positive contribution to local communities.  Contact  Suzanne on 069 79114 or email [email protected]

FURNITURE RESTORATION CLASSES ABBEYFEALE

ABBEYFEALE JOBSEEKER’S NETWORK:

SAFETALK TRAINING:

Learn four basic skills to recognise persons with thoughts of suicide & connect them with suicide helping resources. This is a half day programme facilitated by the HSE Suicide Prevention Resource Office and it will run from 10am-2pm on Tuesday April 24 in St Ita’s Hall Abbeyfeale. Open to everybody over 18 years who want to help prevent suicide and is prepared to become suicide alert. 26 places available. Booking essential.  Contact: 068 32444 or 087 9382883. ADD/ADHD SUPPORT:

The ADD/ADHD Support Group holds a monthly meeting on the last Wednesday of every month from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in St. Ita’s Hall Abbeyfeale. New parents/carers are welcome to share their experiences and learn supports and tips. Sinead Dundon, Nutritional Therapist, will give a short talk on healthy food for the brain at the next meeting on Wednesday March 28, 2012 from 7:30-9:30pm. WEST LIMERICK DRAMA INITIATIVE:

Those currently involved with community drama or those interested in getting involved are being invited to take part in a short acting and performance skills training workshop which will take place in Askeaton on Saturday May 12th and 19th from 10am-4.30pm each day.  Supported by West Limerick Resources the training is free of charge and will cover a wide range of acting and on-stage skills.  Directing for stage course also starting in Abbeyfeale and Knockaderry shortly.  All levels of experience catered for. CRAFTY CORNER GROUP:

The Abbeyfeale Crafty Corner group meets each Wednesday evening from 7pm – 9pm in the West Limerick Resources office in the square. If you are interested in learning craft skills such as knitting & crochet, then this is the group for you. All are welcome and new members are encouraged to come along.
