Another impressive display by our youths saw them close the gap at the top and now just lie a point behind leaders Kilcornan. We dominated the first half and were full value for our three one interval lead. From the off we took the game to the visitors and denied them any time or space on the ball with our forwards equally effective at closing down the opposition. Eventually our dominance was rewarded when we opened the scoring midway through the first half when Dylan Griffin drilled the ball across goal into the bottom left corner. Five minutes and it was two nil after another flowing move by Athea. It began down our right when the attacking right back Kevin Murphy beat a couple of Kilcornan players and cut into the penalty area and then beat the centre half before rattling the ball off the butt of the post where striker Michael Woods reacted quickest to the loose ball and placed it in the bottom corner. Soon after we made it three nil when Gavin Dillons free kick from the left picked out Dylan Griffin at the back post and his header back across goal found the net. Two minutes from half time Kilcornan got one back after a free kick from their right broke for their forward to score from close range. The second half was a close affair but produced no further goals and we defended brilliantly at times to earn a very good win.
