Munster Youths Cup  Athea Utd   (0) 1       Ian Murphy    NCW Rvs   (1) 3

A disappointing performance from out youths saw them exit the provincial cup as Rovers deservedly progressed to the open draw in Munster. The first half was poor as we didn’t display the necessary urgency and went in at the break a goal down as a shot from distance ended in the net. The second half was a bit better as our front players were now beginning to get some decent service with Ian Murphy and Dylan Griffin now putting their defence under pressure. With us now getting into it we conceded a needless free kick which was played into the box and when it wasn’t dealt with a Rovers player headed to the net from two yards. We were under pressure now but we gave ourselves a chance when top scorer Ian Murphy scored from ten yards after great work by Kevin Murphy. We had one or two chances to equalize before Rovers got in for another soft goal to leave us with it all to do again. Liam O’Connor then crossed for Ryan Carroll who shot wide while a brilliant run by Kevin Murphy past three Rovers players deserved better. In the end a poor performance in the first half and the concession of three very soft goals cost us big time. Best for Athea Kevin Murphy. Team: Sonny Sheehan, Aaron O’Connor, Jamie Sheehan, Gary Vaughan, Mark O’Connor,Liam O’Connor, Maurice Hayes, Dylan Griffin, Ian Murphy, Ryan Carroll, Kevin Murphy. Subs Michael Mullane & Rici Hanley Referee: Colm Dalton.
