Welcome to our weekly look at events making the news around the Carrigkerry locality on this Sunday . We welcome the month of October, and the countdown to Christmas. The final month of Autumn and the time to tidy up things in preparation for the Winter.
Last Sunday’s Mass in Saint Mary’s was an Anniversary Mass for the late Bridgid Mulvihill, and Mary Harrold. The Church gate Collection was in aid of Saint Ita’s Hospital in Newcastle West, and the October Stations were taken up.
The Mock Wedding in the Community Centre, Carrigkerry on Saturday evening was a very successful event. Well done to all who attended and supported Carrig Celtic soccer club.
Ireland had a good win over Italy in the rugby World Cup to top their group and progress to the 1/4 final, and a meeting with Wales on this coming Saturday morning.
Na Piarsaigh made history at Limerick Gaelic Grounds on Sunday defeating Ahane to win their first ever County senior hurling title.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Ahane by 0-14 to 1-7 in the County Premier Minor Football Championship semi-final in Clarina on Saturday 24th September. They led by 6 points at half-time, and ran out 4 point winners, to book a final place on Sunday 16th October. Last year, under the Saint Colman’s banner with players from Ballysteen, they also reached the final only to lose by 1 point to Kilmallock. TEAM + PANEL. In last week’s soccer action, in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup Carrig Celtic defeated Rockhill Rovers 3-1 on penalties, after it finished 0-0 after extra time. Kilcolman Rovers lost 5-1 away to Saint Ita’s with Jamie McCormack scoring. Old Mill had no match. Carrig Celtic B defeated Ferry Rangers 2-1 away in Division 3 of the Desmond League. Thomas Moran, and Brodie O’Connor scored the goals.
In the Desmond ladies League Kilcolman Rovers drew 1-1 at home to Breska Rovers, in the Premier League, with Stephanie Downes scoring the goal. Carrig Celtic drew 2-2 at home to Creeves Celtic in the first Division, with goals from Lisa Collins and Bridget Liston.
Congratulations to Pat Hennessy Ballyloughane Carrigkerry winner of the Claret Jug with 38 points, (13 ) at Newcastle West Golf Club on Sunday 25th September.

The month’s mind Mass for the late Mick Barrett, Glenastar, Ardagh, will be held in Saint Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Saturday 8th October at 10.15 am.
The Rosary will be recited at Churchtown Grotto during the month of October, commencing on Sunday 2nd October at 7pm, and all are welcome.
This year’s Limerick Ladies Mini Marathon takes place around the U.L. Campus on Sunday 16th October, starting at 2.pm. The eight Kilometre event is a great opportunity for people to fundraise for their charity school or special cause.

It has been announced that Ardagh/Carrigkerry branch will be hosting the County finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh on Sunday 4th December.
Membership fees are now due for the coming year and can be handed to their branch treasurer.
A meeting of St. Molua’s Well Committee will be held in the Hall, Ardagh on Wednesday night next, 5th October at 8.00pm. Everyone is welcome.
Ardagh I.C.A. opening meeting for the winter term will take place on Thursday, 6th October in the Parish Hall at 8.00pm. New members are very welcome. Many thanks to all who supported the recent coffee morning.
The choir will start back again at the 7.30pm Mass next Saturday, October 8th. If you would like to help and get involved with singing or music please meet up with the choir in Ardagh Church on Friday night next, 7th October at 7.45pm for an informal chat.
