Matches
Under 8
The under 8 footballers played a return game with Duagh on Friday evening last in Duagh. We were without some players notably Eoin O’ Shea and Michael Tierney, but we still had a pretty strong team. In the first half, we played some outstanding football defending well and getting some good scores. We made a lot of changes at half time to give players a chance to play in different positions which should make them better footballers. Duagh got on top for a lot of the second half but we finished strong with a couple of late goals to make it very close at the finish. Panel: Gavin Ambrose, Andrew O’Riordan, Adam Byrne, Meadhbh Donovan, T.J. Hunt, Rory O’Mahony, Daire O’Shea, Gearóid O’Sullivan, Conor Mullane and James Hunt.
Under 10’s
Our under 10 footballers travelled to Ballyhahill on Friday night last to take part in a Blitz which included teams from St. Kieran’s, Gerald Griffin’s and St. Senan’s. Playing three matches in total, the first against Gerald Griffin’s in which Athea did very well with our defenders on top through out the game and our midfield and forwards scoring some great points and goals. Our second match was against St. Senan’s and we were on the back foot in the first half as St. Senan’s were playing very well. But in the second half, we played much better and took our scores very well when the chances came our way. Our last match was against a very strong St. Kieran’s side, but all the boys and girls did very well and kept going till the final whistle. Our under 10’s are continuing to improve and are making great progress as the year goes by. We would like to thank Gerald Griffin’s for hosting the blitz and for the treats afterwards. Team: Jack O’Connor, David O’Connor, Ciara O’Shea, Thomas McEnery, Eoin Sheahan, Luke Gleeson, Alex McEldowney, Aibhilín Murphy, Sarah O’Connor, Jason Dillon, Jack Hunt & Aidan Curry.

Feale Rangers:
Athea and Mountcollins are combined this year at minor (under 18) called Feale Rangers and are unbeaten so far this year with five wins out of five. It looks like they are in The West Limerick Minor A final with the opposition still unknown. The main contenders are Newcastle West, Shannon Rangers (Glin/Gerald Griffin’s) or Cois Sionna (St Senan’s/Askeaton/Ballysteen and Kilcornan). Feale Rangers defeated Adare on Sunday night in Athea with two late goals from Maurice Hayes and a Pa Delee penalty making the win look more comfortable than it was. The final score was Feale Rangers 3-12, Adare 1-9. Team: Jonathan Fitzgerald, Mike Mullane, William Finnegan, Thomas Sexton, Mark Horgan, Denis Greaney, Stephen Cahill, Kevin O’Mahony, Matthew Brouder, Kevin Murphy, Cian O’Sullivan, Pa Delee, Jamie O’Brien, Maurice Hayes, Jamie O’Mahony. Subs: Gary Vaughan and Denis Collins.

Intermediates
We defeated Cappamore on a score line of 1-12 to 3-4 in the 4th round of the intermediate football championship. The game was played in Clarina last Friday evening. This was a tough, physical encounter right from the throw-in. We lead by a point at the break 1-6 to 2-2. We scored six points from play in the second half and had a five point lead going into the last few minutes. With the game in injury time Cappamore scored a goal to pull it back to just two points. We held on to secure two valuable points.
Overall a good display of character by the team, the only disappointing thing was the conceding of three goals from play. There were good displays from Tom Collins, Neilus Hunt and Kevin O’Keeffe. The format of the competition means the top team in our group secures a semi-final spot and the next two teams secure a quarter final spot. Currently Oola are top on 6 points, we lie in second place on 6 points and Gerald Griffins are in 3rd place on 5 points. Our last game is against Mountcollins who lie in 4th place on 4 points. It is still all to play for in the last round game so we will need to be at our best to secure a win. Date of match not fixed yet.
Sponsorship
The Club would like to thank Paul Collins of Collins’ Bar for his recent sponsorship towards the club and minor team.
Minors
The minor team defeated Adare last Sunday evening on a scoreline 3-12 to 1-09. We are now top of the table going into our last game against St. Mary’s/Sean Finns. There is great talent in this team from both Athea and Mountcollins. A win next day out should see us qualify for the knock-out stages in the championship.
