‘Out and About’
Sympathy is extended to Pa Sheehy and family of Dirreen, Athea, on the recent death of his brother Lar at a relatively young age. Lar worked at Horgan’s garage here in Athea in the early years. ‘May he rest in peace’.
The death also occurred last week of Pat Joe Moran, formerly of Templeathea and Abbeyfeale. Pat Joe spent most of his life in England and returned home to Ireland to retire some years ago with his wife, to whom we offer sympathy. ‘May the Light of Heaven be his’.
Sincere congratulations and good wishes are sent to Margaret and Bobby Barrett of Templeathea on the recent birth of their new baby girl Sarah, a little sister for Eric. Here’s to many hours enjoyment for them all.
Well at this stage if we get some kind of summer weather, we wouldn’t know what happened. We all complain of the wet weather and heavy mist we’re experiencing every day. But we shouldn’t complain – if anyone watched the programme on Sunday evening last about Somalia we would never again complain about rain. They haven’t had rain in 2 years – what a drought they are experiencing – with so many babies and young children dying of malnutrition, their bones protruding and too weak to even cry – it’s more than heart wrenching. Some walked over 10 miles in the scorching heat just to get to a refugee-camp, where they hoped to get aid, food and water. Many died on their journey. One grandmother of 80 told how she was trying to look after her 5 grandchildren who were all very ill, their mother and father having died from a disease and she herself wasn’t able to walk – one wonders why this is allowed to happen when so much food is wasted. While we are praying for sunshine they are praying for rain.
A good crowd attended the meeting last week with regard to the forthcoming adoration which begins on September 1st and will continue each Thursday from 10am – 11pm. Anyone who had put down their name for Friday can come along to any of the hourly slots on the Thursdays. For any more information or if you would like to commit to an hour in the Church, you can contact Fr Bowen or Pat Higgins. The adoration is in preparation for next year’s Eucharistic Congress.
Thought for the week
“A friend is one who comes in when the whole world has gone out”.
