ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT HUGE SUCCESS
We held our Annual Awards Night at The Top of the Town last Friday night for the social highlight of the year. The 2010/11 season from a schoolboy perspective wasn’t as successful as the previous season while our success on the pitch was confined to the U/17s who won the Desmond Cup and the Junior A’s who won the Reidy Cup. This year at our Awards Night we introduced an award for the ‘Supporter of the Year’ and the first recipient of this is Penny Woulfe who has been a regular at our soccer games for as long as I can remember. In all kinds of weather she is there cheering on Athea Utd whether it be supporting her grand children in their games, all the other underage teams as well as supporting both our junior sides. Penny was presented with a beautiful crystal vase and flowers by the club and I dare say come the start of next season we will see Penny at our very first game. Congrats again Penny, never was there a more deserving supporter of the year and long may we see you at The Vales for many, many years to come.
The following are the Athea Utd players of the year for 2009/10 –
U/10s Michael Dalton.
U/11s Cillian Liston.
U/12s James Ryan.
U/13 Pa O’Connor.
U/14 Padraic Walsh.
U/15 Dylan Griffin.
U/16 Kevin Murphy.
U/17 Jamie Sheehan.
Junior As Tom Collins.
Junior Bs Tom Greaney.
The U/8 As & Bs were all presented with a medal as this was for the most of them their first time playing soccer and we look forward to these fine bunch of players developing in the coming years.
– THANKS –
The club would like to thank all those who attended on the night, especially the players parents and families who made it another great success. Well done to all our players who played with pride in the jersey throughout the past season.
Thanks to Desmond League Referees Colm Dalton and Pat King for attending on the night and making the presentations.
Thanks also to Betty, Johnny and staff at The Top of the Town for hosting our awards night, for the fantastic food as well as the entertainment.
Congrats to all our award winners on the night but for those who didn’t remember next season is only around the corner and it could well be you this time next year.
Roll on 2012.
