Out and About

This weekend before all Masses the collection will be taken up for Cancer Research etc, I’m sure all of us in recent times and in the past have had family members, relatives or friends affected by cancer of some type or another, but we must not let the dreaded ‘C’ take over – it has to be fought against and anyone presently getting treatment try and be as positive as possible and remember the following lines:

Cancer is so Limited

It cannot cripple Love,

It cannot shatter Hope

It cannot corrode Faith

It cannot kill Friendship,

It cannot suppress Memories,

It cannot silence Courage,

It cannot invade the Soul,

It cannot steal Eternal life,

It cannot Conquer the Spirit.

Sincere congratulations and good wishes go to Alma O’Connor of Upper Athea, daughter of Marion and Jeremiah, who on Friday last was married here in Athea to J.P. Finucane from Tarbert. A great day was enjoyed by family, relatives and friends at Ballygarry Hotel in Tralee. Best wishes to them both for the future.

A reminder that a great 8 week session of Aerobics, body toning and relaxation with Maggie Large takes place at the Community Hall here in Athea starting on this Tuesday April 5th and continuing for a further 7 nights. It’s to suit all levels and starts 8.30-9.30pm. It’s a great hour of fun also and if the last 8 week session is anything to go by it’s a must for everyone who wants to get fit.

The dates have been fixed for both The Vintage Rally and The Athea Road Race. The Vintage takes place on July 10th and the 2 day Road Race weekend on the 23rd/24th July – dates to put in your diary! At present the Church road here in Templeathea is being resurfaced for the event and after an absence of the weekend last year no doubt this year will be bigger and better than ever.

The fundraising Fashion Show takes place this Friday night at The Gables and tickets are very limited. Be there for a very enjoyable night.

We wish all the best to Ellen and Donnacadh Quille as they make their exit from Brown Joe’s Pub and welcome, on the other hand, Tom Grady who hails from Knockdown and has taken over the running of the premises.
