This coming Friday April 14^th, as well as being Good Friday, is Limerick Clean-up Day when many people go out with their bags and pickers and pick the rubbish off the roadsides. In Knockdown there is a general invitation to anyone who has an hour to spare to meet in Killeaney grounds for a clean-up within a radius of a mile or so of the Knockdown Arms. Bags and pickers will be available. Please support this community venture.

Last Sunday was a great day for Kerry supporters and those who travelled to Croke Park were not disappointed. While my Kerryman attended the match I took the opportunity to visit the capital and soak up a bit of other culture in the GPO Museum and Glasnevin Cemetery museum. Both places were very interesting and were busy all day with lots of visitors curious like myself. It is a pity that there had been some vandalism done there on the Saturday night.

Dublin, Ireland, has been chosen by Pope Francis to host the 9th World Meeting of Families in August 2018. The last one was held in Philadelphia. Started by Saint John Paul II, and held every three years, this major world event celebrates family as the cornerstone of our lives, and the fundamental building block of society and the Church. Families and others from all over the world will gather in Dublin from 21-26 August 2018 to celebrate their lives together, to share their experiences from different parts of the world, to reflect on the different challenges they face and to grow together in faith. Last Saturday in the South Court Hotel in Limerick, Bishop Brendan with 150 parish and community representatives gathered to launch Limericks preparation for this event. It was an energising meeting giving a flavour of what is to be expected. Though most of the activities will take place in Dublin there will be events in each diocese also for those who cannot travel to the capital. No doubt there will be lots more about this during the next twelve months.

The AGM of Ballyhahill/Loughill ICA will be held on this Wednesday at 8.10 pm in Ballyhahill.

Glin Library will be closed on Good Friday. Opening again on Tuesday April 18th at 10 am.
