Athea Tidy Towns

Our season has well and truly begun with a lot of exciting projects in store for our village. Unfortunately there are less funds available this year due to the reduction in funding to West Limerick Resources but the generosity of the people of Athea and our dedicated volunteers will ensure that our projects should continue.

We have decided to go ahead with our ‘Pride of Place’ Flag project which will see the erection of 7 flag poles at the Giants Garden. This will include the Irish, Munster, Limerick, our own customised Tidy Towns Flag and other local flags. The photograph attached is incredibly out of proportion but will act as a guide. We are now asking the generous  individuals and business people of Athea if they would be interested in supporting our work by Sponsoring a Flag pole at a cost of €250. These funds would be of great benefit to our village and would allow you to play your part in displaying our Flags we are all so proud of. Please get in touch with any member of our committee or we can be contacted on 0879042477 if you are interested.

We have also commenced enhancement work at the Upper Road – which will see the introduction of a flower bed and railway sleepers which will create a welcoming approach to our village from this entrance. Special thanks to Maurice & Ann Marie Horgan and Lal Browne for their co operation.

Our native wildflower meadow is currently being prepared for sowing on the Glin Road behind our ‘ATHEA’ bunker sign. Plans for this area also include a gravel path, the planting of native mountain Ash trees,  benches and an archway at the entrance.  Thanks to Johnny and Theresa Mullane for allowing us to carry out this project.

The Wall across from the Credit Union has been raised and will be plastered in the near future in preparation for a heritage mural by the very talented local artist James Dunn.

We are currently in consultation with Dulux in view of creating a colour scheme for Colbert Street which would greatly enhance our village core. If you own a premises on Colbert Street and are planning on painting we would love to be off assistance to you. We would greatly welcome your co operation in creating such a colour scheme for Athea. Thanks to those who have already volunteered to paint up for 2014!!
